L'Institution Libre de Marcq founded by the priests of Saint Bertin of Saint Omer in 1840, is today a school complex of 2 830 pupils, comprising a junior school (410 pupils), a "collège" (1 570 pupils) and a "lycée" (850 pupils). The Institution is set within a green 16 acre park close to the city of Lille and within easy reach of a major road network.
The heads and leaders of the school place great value on its Catholic identity. In the constant pursuit of excellence and the well-being of its students they successively developed Classics, sport, the sciences and open-mindedness towards others and the world, all this with maximum support from parents.
Today, we are able to reply with audacity and reactivity to the realities of our world by providing information on major problems facing society, through a truly ambitious programme for language learning, a strong commitment to developing new technologies and by our numerous cultural and charitable activities.
Our educational policy aims at including all aspects of the pupils' personality: his intellectual needs, physical and sporting needs as well as his personal and spiritual life. We hope to lead each and everyone towards success through work and effort as illustrated in the "parable of the talents", through a desire and a joy for learning, to the best of his ability. We provide an education based on liberty through responsibility, generosity and solidarity gained through the quest for the meaning of life and a clear understanding of the values of peace and justice, honesty, respect and solidarity.
Throughout the Collège and the Lycée we encourage a sense of responsibility, initiative and autonomy through different teaching programmes.
We work together with parents to keep careful watch on the health of our pupils. We place great emphasis on the personal project of each pupil who remains realistically and totally implicated in his work throughout his education. Our excellent results in different exams (100% success rate for the last nine years) has led to the creation of extra curricular classes in which pupils are coached for entrance to prestigious schools of higher education. We make a point of valuing the artistic and cultural talents of our pupils as we recognise these to be an expression of their dynamism and creativity.
Our school institution is wide open to the world looking to the future with confidence and courage and creating numerous links (Germany, England, Spain, other European countries, the United States of America, South Africa, China).
Firmly rooted in modernity, our institution is doted with the means for providing a quality education: numerous laboratories, sports halls and pitches, information technology, libraries and documentation rooms… but above all we have a large team of motivated and dynamic teachers and parents devoted to our excellent pupils.
